My lack of posts recently will tell you I've had exams. My impeccable punctution and use of capital letters will tell you I'm blogging on my iPhone. During said exams, I've had Justin Vernon's cover of Peter Gabriel's Come Talk To Me on repeat. The song is a lovely reach-out to a distant loved-one and Bon Iver is up there in my top 5 favourite artists, best debut albums, best side projects (perhaps more on that another day...) and best gigs. Also, no offence to Gabriel's Scratch My Back album, but this song also marks the beginning of the (more exciting, imho) follow-up, I'll Scratch Yours. The songs are being released full-moon by full-moon, and what better way to start than with this beautiful track and an extensive quote from it:
'In the swirling curling storm of desire
Unuttered words hold fast
With reptile tongue the lightning lashes
Towers built to last
Darkness creeps in like a thief
And offers no relief
Why are you shaking like a leaf?
Come on, come talk to me
...
I did not come to steal
This all is so unreal
Can't you show me how you feel
Come on, come talk to me
...
You lie there with your eyes half closed,
Like there's noone there at all
There's a tension pulling on your face
Come on, come talk to me
...
Don't you ever change your mind
...
I can imagine the moment
Breaking out through the silence
All the things that we both might say
And the heart it will not be denied
'Til we're both on the same damn side
All the barriers blown away'
[Come Talk To Me; Peter Gabriel]
